Ankara Oncology Hospital
Oncology Hospital started its activities in Kurtuluş district as a 100-bed Ahmet Andiçen Hospital in 1956 with the efforts of the Turkish Cancer Research Institute, with the contributions of volunteers and organizations. As a result of its transfer to the Ministry of Health in 1962 and the increase in the workload, the building belonging to the Mechanical Chemistry Institute in Etimesgut was put into service in 1967 and thus the bed capacity increased to 300. With the commissioning of the new and modern hospital building, the construction of which was completed on 06.04.1989, the Etimesgut division was moved to a new building in Demetevler, where the activities are currently being carried out. With the introduction of this section equipped with modern devices, a total capacity of 600 beds has been reached and the quality of the service provided has also increased.
In addition to this structure, modern and high quality services for childhood cancers were started to be put into service on 17.05.2007 with the new and modern hospital building on Demetevler Urankent site as an additional service building. In addition, the bone marrow transplantation unit (KIT) and hematology clinic were established at the end of 2008 within the Urankent annex building. Thus, a major deficiency in the public regarding the modern diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of hematological cancers and stem cell treatments has been closed. Finally, the Cancer Early Diagnosis Screening and Education Center (KETEM) building was completed in Demetevler central campus in 2009 and put into service.
